The Server Extension will preserve certain values when you run your migration.
Below you will find a table of values that require the Server Extension, and which environments need the extension installed to preserve them.
Notes:
- The Server Extension is not compatible with SharePoint 2003.
- You do not need the extension in Microsoft 365. For more information, see Server Extension checklist.
- As SharePoint Server 2007 is past the end of its Microsoft support lifetime, the ShareGate migration tool is no longer able to provide full support of this product. For more information, see Contacting our technical support team.

Example
Using the above table, you can see that if you want to preserve the value Authors (Modified by) on Draft Versions, the source (i.e. starting point of your migration) can be any version of SharePoint. But if the destination (i.e. where you are migrating to) is on-premises SharePoint 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 or SharePoint SE, you will need the Server Extension installed on the destination version of SharePoint.
