The Server Extension will preserve certain values when you run your migration.
Below you will find a table of values that require the Server Extension, and which environments need the extension installed to preserve them.
Notes:
- The Server Extension is not compatible with SharePoint 2003.
- You do not need the extension in Microsoft 365. For more information, see Server Extension checklist.
- As SharePoint Server 2007 is past the end of its Microsoft support lifetime, ShareGate Migrate is no longer able to provide full support for this product. For more information, see Contacting our technical support team.

Example
Using the above table, you can see that if you want to preserve the value Authors (Modified by) on Draft Versions, the source can be any version of SharePoint. But if the destination is on-premises SharePoint 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, or SharePoint SE, you will need the Server Extension installed on the destination version of SharePoint.
