When you activate your subscription in ShareGate's migration tool, a machine code is generated from a combination of your user account and your machine information. That code is then used to keep track of that activation.
A license activation can be transferred to another user or machine. For more information, see Transfer your license activation to another computer or user.
Note: Changing your machine name, re-imaging, or changing your domain will cause your license activation to become invalid in the migration tool. In such cases, you can remove your license activation in ShareGate Home and reactivate it.

Activate ShareGate's migration tool
You can activate your subscription in ShareGate's migration tool with one of these methods:
Log in to your ShareGate account
When you start the migration tool for the first time, you will be prompted to log in to your ShareGate account.
When you log in to your account it will use the subscription associated to your account to activate the migration tool. If you have multiple subscriptions associated to your account, you will be asked to select which subscription you want to use when you log in.
Activate your license with a license key
If you have your license key you can activate it without logging in to your ShareGate Account.
When you start the migration tool for the first time, click the Activate my license button in the log-in prompt to enter your license key.
View your license activations
You can review your license activations in ShareGate Home. To access your subscriptions, follow these steps:
- In the migration tool, select Settings from the sidebar.
- Select Licenses.
- Under Active licenses, click Manage my subscription.
- You will be taken to ShareGate Home's Subscription page.
