Multi-Geo tenant

In a Multi-Geo tenant, you can store your user's data in a different geographic location than your tenant.

Details

If you connect to a Multi-Geo tenant, the URLs will look like standard SharePoint URLs in the ShareGate migration tool. For example:

https://domain-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_name

When you access that OneDrive in your Multi-Geo tenant, the URL is modified to fit the OneDrive's location. For example, if the OneDrive is in the United States, .us is added to your domain:

https://domain.us-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_name

Because it is technically a different domain, the connection fails when you try to access that OneDrive directly without the location (.us) added to the domain in the URL.

Solution

When migrating a site or OneDrive for Business in a Multi-Geo tenant, you must connect with the URL that specifies the location in the domain.

Note: Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Groups migrations to and from Multi-Geo Satellite sites are not supported (the central site is supported).
- The migration tool cannot migrate teams or groups into the additional regions created by the Multi-Geo service.
- The migrated teams or groups will go to the default tenant domain.
